Intensive Outpatient Program

Intensive Outpatient Treatment (commonly referred to as IOP), is a primary treatment program that may be recommended after an extensive clinical evaluation in lieu of inpatient treatment or outpatient treatment. IOP may be recommended for an individual who does not require a medically supervised detox, or it may be a beneficial option for those who have completed a medical detox and cannot commit to a long-term residential program.

IOP enables men and women to continue their recovery therapies on an intensive, part-time schedule, designed to accommodate family life and employment. Many individuals will opt to complete an inpatient program and transfer directly to IOP, seeking supplemental support as they make the transition from residential treatment back into independent living, or partially independent living (if they choose to move into a halfway house or sober living facility). With the assistance of Intensive Outpatient, individuals are able to establish a foundation for long-term recovery support within their local communities, while receiving the additional one-on-one and group therapeutic care they need.

Next Chapter Treatment offers an Intensive Outpatient Program, open to both men and women and held three days a week at our clinical offices – Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6 pm to 9 pm. Our IOP may be utilized as a form of supplemental care after residential treatment, or to provide a primary source of care for those who cannot spend ample time away from family and/or work obligations (and who do not require a more intensive form of treatment). It is important to note that we strongly recommend inpatient treatment to all those who can afford to take the time away from their day-to-day lives. Addiction is a highly progressive and multi-faceted disease, and long-term, therapeutic care is often necessary to fully resolving all underlying and contributing issues.

The Intensive Outpatient Program that we offer provides patients with a combination of group and individual therapy sessions. Group sessions are small an intimate, and will not exceed 10 people at maximum, allowing for highly individualized and personal care.

Numerous topics pertaining to both addiction and trauma will be covered, including (but certainly not limited to):

  • Relapse prevention skills
  • Managing cravings and urges
  • Introduction to the 12-step program
  • Exploring spirituality
  • Unresolved trauma and addiction
  • Self-care
  • Gender-specific issues
  • Communication and setting boundaries
  • Co-occurring disorders and other behavioral addictions
  • Family involvement/family program
  • Building and maintaining healthy relationships

Depending on personal needs, an individual may be referred to additional mental health treatment, supplemental life skills counseling, or employment support. We at Next Chapter strive to ensure that each of our patients is receiving the most appropriate care for his or her personal needs – if we feel that our program of recovery is not a good match, we will gladly recommend another. However, because our IOP program is so comprehensive and individualized, we believe that it will be a good match for anyone seeking quality therapeutic care!

My journey (and growth!) of these last several months has been tremendous, and I could not be more grateful to Next Chapter and all involved for your part in helping me to open my eyes and heart to a self-awareness I have not had in a very, very long time. I took your suggestions from our first initial conversations of getting back to 12 step meetings, counseling and my own inward continued journey. I express genuine, true heartfelt thanks for that
