UNTANGLING A VERY COMPLICATED CONDITION
We believe addiction itself to be symptomatic of what is often a potent stew of personal and developmental issues. We also believe mental illnesses like depression and anxiety also stem from a mixture of both genetic and environmental causes, including unresolved personal trauma. Only by carefully unravelling the internal collage of interwoven conditions can we gain a full enough understanding to appropriately tailor treatment plan that will allow our clients to process and overcome their dysfunctional behaviors in a way that is lasting and sustainable.
There is no magic bullet, no “one size fits all” approach to treatment, just as there are no two individuals or conditions that are alike.
We treat the entire person – Mind, body, and spirit
We start by fully examining each client’s family and developmental history to gain a clear understanding of their childhood and development, including the various roles they played in their family of origin and the ways in which they adapted to those roles.
Through our in-depth exploration process, we expose the unfavorable developmental patterns that will help reveal the underlying causes of the client’s presenting issues, including addictions and self-destructive or dysfunctional behaviors.
Our clinical team works together to establish an emotional baseline for each client, allowing the primary therapist to establish a personalized curriculum of care.
Each client is assigned a primary therapist, who works with the clinical and residential team to track and identify the client’s unique dispositions and behaviors that create unmanageability and relational problems.
The primary therapist guides the client in learning to recognize when they emotionally revert to childhood ego states. From there, the client will learn to “grow themselves back up” to more consistently behave as a responsible adult.
Because regression occurs when clients are emotionally triggered, identifying those triggers and adopting healthy, functional coping mechanisms allows them to better resolve moments of emotional distress when they occur.
Individuals are taught to recognize their own inherent value as human beings, and how imperfection and vulnerability are a part of it. This allows them to come to terms with their own fallibility and overcome limiting core beliefs.
Clients are given tools to monitor their own progress, and achieve greater self-awareness through communication skills. By learning to calmly and effectively describe how they feel, they lay the foundation for healthy interpersonal relationships.
As they progress through treatment, clients are encouraged to take on more responsibilities and explore their improved resiliency in coping with emotional triggering and adversity. Armed with these tools, the client is equipped to experience their lives with long-term stability and lasting recovery.
